Marco believes “connection is the foundation of conservation. The public will only conserve something they know and love. That is why it is so important to bring people closer to nature in all possible ways, whether it is through art, photography, or experiences, to the object of conservation.”

He strives to cultivate a connection between people and nature, but also sees a need to help the public understand the interconnected nature of ecosystems.

Molina’s work spans a wide range of species, but being a Costa Rican native, birds are close to his heart. He explains “Costa Rica has about 900 species of birds, many of which are endemic to the country, meaning they can only be seen there. To make these species known through art, Molina says, “enables conservation efforts, and awakens a greater interest.

However, it is not just about birds. Birds are connected to other species, the forest, and so on. The problems on the beaches are originated in the mountains, the problems in the oceans start in the cities. So the solutions are also interconnected.  Birds can serve as a symbol, because they are colorful and they are attractive. But more than the birds themselves, what we need to conserve are the forests, and the ecosystem as a whole."
